Just a little less than a month ago, while Mercury was still in Leo, I was about to embark on an exciting trip to my sister’s house up in the Poconos in Pennsylvania and to be at my son’s wedding in New York a few days later. The rest of the world was still under the influence of and recovering from the effects of the Cardinal Grand Square, but my little world had lots of warm-fuzzy fun, loving, family-closeness in it. It was a very long-over due vacation and reconnection with my family, with my son, and with the excitement I feel when I’m at my best.
This week, as the Moon and Mercury joined up in Virgo, and observing the people around me, including my family, I all of a sudden became aware of how the transit affected their emotions, how they communicated as a result, and I became aware of repetitive patterns I never realized before until now…patterns that happen every year around this time until the end of September.
Have you ever noticed that we take more inventory of our lives at major holidays and birthdays? Now, as an astrologer and someone invested in personal development and success systems, I take inventory of my life all the time…for measurement purposes…but this past year, more so than ever before. I have a birthday coming up in a little over a month, and the inventory I took was that I am not the only one affected by the Virgoan influences (newsflash…I realized I’m just a spec in a big Universe). And I saw that the patterns of criticism, time management, and what we ‘should’ be doing to be of better service to others and our health has repeated itself with more intensity than any other part of the year whenever planets move closer to and reside temporarily in Virgo.
My first experience with this pattern was sometime as a little girl. I was in the back seat of the car, my parents driving, and it was only a day before my birthday…and I don’t remember exactly what was said, but it was such an attack of criticism, I remember crying for days. And remembering back, these incidents repeated themselves for years, far into adulthood. It wasn’t that my parents were mean-hearted. As a matter of fact, I think they were (are) oblivious to the criticism…almost cold. Which is completely unlike them. And usually, the criticisms involved their perception of time management, what I should be doing for others instead of myself (hard for a little girl having a birthday to understand), or some health related issue. I of course did learn to manage these incidents and expect them as I grew older.
But the other day, when the Moon conjoined Mercury in Virgo, I received a little nudge again. It was well-meaning, said with humor (recited an old 70′s song…Billy Joel, I think), but the cryptic meaning of the message was crystal clear to me and about how I need to “get on the ball” with my I.T. Career or change my direction. My initial knee-jerk reaction kicked in. I thought to myself “this person doesn’t have a CLUE what I’m up to! What gives them the authority to send a message like that?” Then, today as the Moon moved OUT of Virgo again and conjoined the Saturn-Venus-Mars party in Libra, I got another message from a more distant influence in my life saying “Never be a victim. Accept no one’s definition of your life; define yourself.” I thought again to myself, “how fitting” and I remembered and related a flood of past patterns in my life all while Virgo was the major theme during this time of year.
The thing that I realized the other day is that old saying “consider the source”, which is exactly what I did.
The person that gave me the initial ‘cryptic’ message, nudging me to utilize time-management to be of service, is a Fixed sign. I began to relate all sorts of other messages I’ve received throughout my life to people who were ruled by Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius). I’ve also received surprisingly similar messages from Cardinal signs…friends and family…while the planets were playing around in the sign of Virgo. The only difference with the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) is that they would say their ‘piece’, but if I didn’t ‘comply’ with their detailed advice, they’d be off in another direction with the air of coldness Virgo’s are supposed to be known for. The only “understanding” signs, or so I noticed were more hands-off, were the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces….with Pisces more so in its own world than the other 3). In talking with my Mutable friends about this during phone conversations, they admitted to greater feelings of frustration this time of year (or when the planets bunched in their Sun signs)…unless there was a Jupiter return involved.
All of a sudden it dawned on me how uncomfortable many of the Cardinal and Fixed signs must be while Mercury, the Sun, and other planets temporarily stake their claim in Mutable signs (unless strong Mutable influences are within the chart).
Of course I had to mischievously play Devil’s Advocate and try this new-found realization out and test it, so my Fixed-Aquarius roommate quickly became, coincidentally, my new guinea pig.
But I also gave him some tools to help him work through the challenge of everything being mutable and flexible and changeable around him….something a Fixed sign obviously doesn’t appreciate to the extent Mutable-born’s do.
My beloved Cardinal connections are extremely quiet as of late…but patterns have shown me that the ‘leadership’ advice will rebirth like the Phoenix as the Sun moves closer to Virgo. The sun is still in Fixed Leo right now…and the Cardinal signs are basking and soaking up some relaxing rays before leading the packs into the heavy work of the harvest to get the job done before winter. My experience is that the Cardinal signs wait until mid-to-end of the Mutable Sign transit to bellow.
Now…my caveat is that I’m on a cusp of Mutable and Cardinal. Which means keeping my own tongue, and my fingers, in check so not to challenge my more Mutable friends and family. But it’s so much fun being both! Little effort…lots of variety…a little trouble here and there…life is interesting, and I’m entertained by it.
As for the Mutable side of me….
I have been EXTREMELY busy in the background and I have not communicated my ‘business’ until now. I am officially taking the plunge and going into business as a consulting astrologer, as well as taking on other future, secret astrological ventures on the near horizon as well. I am not changing careers from I.T., but rather performing BOTH my passions. As a matter of fact, my I.T. Career area will be tightening up its focus here shortly as well. For this to happen, I’ve had a lot of foundation work to lay in order to function as both roles in daily life. So, I hope you join me in my new journey I am venturing into….probably right before my birthday on the cusp of Libra. I’ll keep you posted, and I hope you’ll share my excitement along the way!
‘Til next time…
Namaste.
